Sleep Well.....?!?!

Ah, how we take the full night's sleep for granted.....

Sunday night, Alex woke up hysterically crying.  Typically, Alex's emotions are pretty even-keel, he doesn't show a lot.  So when he was so hysterical that he couldn't even get a word out, Andy and I were pretty concerned.  We resorted to asking questions, and he would nod his head in an answer.  "Does your tummy hurt?  Does your head hurt?  Does ANYTHING hurt?"  All "no".  "Did you have a bad dream?"  (I began to wonder if he understands what a dream is...so I began to ask things like, 'Did you think of something scary while you were asleep?')  Again, it was a "no" to all of these.

Finally, Andy decided to take him out to the living room and they could fall back asleep together on the couch.  (We had watched the Lion King - where the father dies - on Saturday night, so Andy was thinking that this may have sparked some of Alex's hysteria.)  A short while later, Andy returned to bed, stating that Alex was asleep on the couch.

Again, at about 1:30, Alex again began sobbing again.  Same routine.  Andy ended up "moving" out to the couch and slept there for a few hours with him.  Luckily, those were the only times that night that he was up - but it certainly doesn't help when you are short on sleep on a Monday. :(

Monday morning, as we were driving in the car on the way to Sargent, I began to ask Alex if he remembered why he was so sad the night before.  He said that he did.  I asked him to share why he was sad.....

His response?

Because the water in his cup (which he keeps up on his bed) was WARM.  And he wanted cold.

Next time we'll know to ask him about ice.
